G2 Program/ Burst mode ?

Hello, I am trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. I thought P mode was supposed to be sort of like auto on the G2, where it selects the correct aperture and speed. Is this the case, because I get extremely overexposed shots, bleached with hardly any color. In particular I have been trying to do this in burst mode.

I am not confident enough with speeds and apertures to quickly adjust in Av or Tv when action is going on: for example, I tried to take pics of equestrian action, as our friend wanted some pics of her cantering her horse. Or, I tried to get some action shots this morning of two of our dogs playing outdoors in the sun. All were very bleached. I was using burst mode because the shutter lag and processing delay makes me miss a lot of action, so I was trying to do burst.

This morning's shots exif data said that in P mode it was at F 4.0, Exposure time 1/50 secs., ISO 50, White balance daylight. The equestrian shots the other day were on an overcast day whereas this morning is bright sun, but they were equally as bleached.

I would appreciate some help in knowing what I am doing wrong, or how best to accomplish this type of picture.

If the same shots come out fine using AUTO mode, you might want to check to make sure your Exposure Compensation setting is at 0.

1) 1/50 seems very slow for action and bright sun, for action in burst mode I wouldn't try below 1/500 prefer 1/1000 in Tv mode.
2) Your right about P it should expose properly...?? Check Ev
3) Make sure focus is "single" not "continous" for quicker results
4) Light metering should be center weighted average

Thank you both, I never thought to check the exposure compensation, it was indeed bumped up. I tried it in "burst" on P mode after putting it back to 0, and it did help a lot, though it seemed very slightly overexposed still (compared to auto mode).

I will try it in Tv at the higher speed, thanks for the suggestion.
