I'm posting this on behalf of a friend, whose 300D has developed a problem where some of the images have a prominent purple line running across the image. The line always appears in the same spot.

I've asked the friend to report back whether the problem only shows up in the computer or also in the camera in order to rule out post-capture file corruption. I've also suggested reformatting the flash card in-camera and trying a different flash card to rule out a bad card. I've also asked about the conditions under which this occurs. Flash only, or always, or randomly.

In the meantime, has anyone else seen this before? Is this a known problem addressed by firmware, or will the camera have to be sent in?

Hi Steven,

in addition to the questions you mentioned, it might also be interesting to know if this happens in JPEG and RAW as well or only in one of these formats. Also, which mode was selected and which ISO setting.

If it happens in all modes, settings, save modes, then I would guess that there is a problem with the sensor or with the transfer of data from the sensor to the DIGIC processor ... making it necessary to send it in.

Best regards,
Andy

some cameras, some lenses,
and still a lot of things to learn...
(so post processing examples on my images are welcome :D)
