I am planning to get a more sturdy head than my Gitzo 1275 head. I would rather not change from the RC-2 mounting plates I use now. I would like to buy something that will be good to use with a Wimberly side kick as a 500L is in my future. Price range $200-$300. Eventually I will upgrade my tripod as well. Any sugestions?

My guess would be either a Markins M-20 or RRS BH-55, assuming that you have the legset to handle the load. Unfortunately, both of these are outside your stated budget (but not by much. Without any type of clamp, the RRS is about $350 and the Markins will cost about the same.
