Hard to believe that Fly South with the Birds (external link) is over. Instead of joining the rest of the group for the afternoon, I decided to head out on my own to visit the eagle nest again. Unfortunately the sky was mostly cloudy and I never got that perfect late afternoon light that I was hoping for. Guess I'll have to save it for another time. These shots were taken with the 100-400, which felt like a toy after holding the 500 for three days!

This is one of the adults keeping watch over the area while the other is off hunting at the lake. The sun popped out for a brief moment so I thought this made a nice scene. Plus it gave me something to do while standing on the side of the road for 3 hours.

The other adult came back with some sort of bird. I can't figure out if it's a coot or a small heron.

That's what I was thinking. Here's a better shot of the prey before it got chewed up. Any idea what it could be?

Well done, Liz. I think the prey is a Moorhen.

You're gonna hate flying back to that cold weather.....every time I've taken a winter vacation to Florida, I come back to ice and snow. Terrible shock!

Would you bring me a box of warm when you come back?

The bird is probably a moorhen.
