Anyone know some good spots to get some fireworks shots?

Great America in Santa Clara has been having them every Saturday night in August, around 9:30pm - 9:45pm. They'll be shooting them off both Saturday & Sunday of Labor Day weekend. I've taken my son to the top of the new parking garage across Tasman from the new 49ers stadium...the southwest corner of the garage to be exact. If you don't get to the top, or if there are too many people/cars up top, you could go in the stairwell. Just make sure you're high enough off the street. If you go this weekend, you might want to get in earlier, maybe even before 9:00pm in case the police stop traffic around there. The parking garage is free to get into...just drive in. Be aware there are no restrooms.

How about just the other side of the bridge?
I live in Clayton and work in North Concord. Over near the Drive-In Theater and the airport.

Nice! Isn't there a UPS facility near there?

Yes. In fact, if you are standing in front of the UPS building, I work in the building just to the left of it. :)

I'm in Walnut Creek, used to work in Concord (Siemens) before doing my own thing for a while and then becoming stay at home dad for our two kids. So I have time for morning hikes in the area :-)

Heading up Mt Diablo soon again, explore he burn area more. Kind of waiting for some nice clouds, but probably will head up regardless this week. Looks pretty sad up there, but a unique opportunity nonetheless and I sure hope they are correct when they promise a crazy good wild flower season next spring!

I do a lot of panning video and without a fluid head it is very hard to keep it smooth.

On those Bay Bridge pics, I'd go with a higher ISO and try to get the gaps in the lights, rather than having it look like Christmas lights. You shouldn't have to go to F20, your DOF doesn't need to be that great. I have yet to go get my bridge pics. :-(

did the fire start around the Bowmen place? I thought about joining at some time, it's just a bit far from me in Walnut Creek (pretty much other side of the mountain I think?) and Ygnacio is not a fun road during traffic times. Did their place survive ok?

I'll head back up the mountain this week, trails should all be open again now. Wen I went the week after the fire many were still closed. Hiked around the top though. Huge fire area.
