Anyone want to meet up personally? I've been into photography a little over a year and never knew anyone that was into it. It'd be nice to meet up with someone and share interest as i've never done it before.

Btw i live in San Leandro.

I would be interested but I live in the San Jose area and I don't drive.

Well, maybe after school lets out for Derrick, I can swing through San Leandro and pick him up and we can meet you in San Jose.

Got any cool places to shoot?

I am free on Sunday if that works for both of you?
If you like to people watch or take candids and are into architecture, downtown San Jose is pretty good. There are a lot of nature / wetlands areas for birds.

I would mention Kelley Park but I might do that on Friday with my girlfriend and her family.

I'm cool with that killjoy. But Sunday might not be a good time because the next day is finals. And that week also. Schools out June 10. Anytime before that is busy because of finals. :(

The chef at the restaurant I work at needs me to work the line Sunday ... so Sunday is out for me :(

We are usually closed on Sundays, but the Sunnyvale art and wine festival is this weekend and we will be open since it's busy.

I might be free during the week but I will need to let you both know once I see the new schedule on Saturday.

I used to work for these guys.

For fifteen years. I was a Senior Equipment Maintenance Technician.
I can actually say that I liked my job.
But they moved it to China. :(

Anything new?

It looks like I will lose some sleep on Monday because... the 7D will finally come back to my hands after 2 months of wait (1 if you don't count the time spent inside the service center). Time to start shooting again...

It's more of an user error from what I'm told for the way I described the issue. I only had one week to find out if there's anything wrong when I got my hands on the body back in about mid-April. I was quite confused when pictures turned out worse than my XSi given my shooting habits didn't change. Before the XSi was sold, I quickly tried to put the 18-55 IS kit lens and take a few quick shots of my figures. I began to feel something isn't right as the kit lens came out sharper than the 24-105L. At least the body was being inspected by a Canon tech. The bad thing was I tried to show him some samples for a week straight and none of them get to his e-mail. So I just asked him to calibrate the body and lens instead.

Now that it's coming back in couple days (it's miserable to have no body and lens for a couple months since I need to wait for someone to bring them back), let's just hope there is really nothing wrong with it, perhaps change by technique a bit and take some nice shots. I'm thankful that a close friend of mine generously lend me his 5D Classic since the Memorial Day weekend, which was when I'm supposed to have my gear back. I was really pissed because I was excited to try the 300 f/4L IS on the 7D and pick up the battery grip that weekend. The bright side was I'm able to take awesome shots of some people I know with the 300L on the 5D.

Well, having made the same change, from XSi to 7D, I can tell you that the learning curve was steep. Learning the AF system and what to use when, as well as the sensor points, was a bit of a climb. I'm not shooting much right now, so I'm a bit out of practice, but certainly a lot better than when I first started with it. I've got to get rid of my cheaper glass, and hoping to get the 24-105 to go with my 100-400. I'm not sure my 100-400 is calibrated quite right, but I am also not very stable when I hand hold or pan, so could be me. Even the tripod stuff isn't as sharp as I think it should be. I should just give in and send it in while I still have the XSi.

I have thought about selling my 40D and buying a 7D. I really want a 7D. But I have only been using a DSLR about 3 months and am trying to remain patient so I can get more / better glass, and better photography knowledge before buying a more complex body. It's tough.

what about how long you have been doing "advanced" photo in general? (advanced being more than just a point and shoot style). Cause if it's 3 months as well you def don't need anything more than a 40D for a while
