Routine 12 hour days....no wonder the population is declining.

Thats ridiculous, finally one culture is on the path to lowering the pressures it applies on the landscape, gotta make sure we stop that.

The Japanese are more considerable of the environment than many others--they should probably be one of the last groups to restrict their own population.

Sorry to argue with you, but you need to clarify that statement.

IMHO, any nation where people will go shopping, for up to 30 or 40 minutes, and leave their car engine running in summer, "because then, the air-con keeps it nice and cool inside", are not exactly what I'd call environmentally aware.

I'm pretty sure I could cite dozens of areas where my hosts are NOT considerate to the environment (or each other!), so please, explain why you think they are.

I love living here, don't get me wrong, but IMHO, we're all pretty crap at caring for our planet.....explain why I'm wrong and I'll go away quietly.....

12 hours a day for Japanese, that's nothing. :)
I've worked with a Japanese company for 4 years and never really got the chance to do other things besides work. When I transferred to other company, that year I got married! :)
