Me too. I'm still curious how others handle big groups. Especially with lighting and space restraints. René Damkot wrote in post #7294303 Few people not visible though. My largest group shot: Small. Maybe 10 or 15 people. I've assisted on this one Yea, I think there were a few teachers that were acting like students, hiding behind others, etc. Oh well. michillebaker wrote in post #7295251 I agree with the few people not visible in back but overall all excellent job. (what type of lens did you use?) I would have spread them more to the side rather than up so far back. It's always nice to position them from smaller to taller as well. For this one my back was against a wall, literally. I had to use my 18-55mm kit lens as that was the widest thing I had available at the time. Jeff

I was hired to shoot a conference for college students back in January of this year and one of the organizers thought it would be a great idea to get a group shot after one of the sessions was finished. I was shooting from the penthouse level (13th floor) of the beachfront resort I was staying at looking down at the group. I had 4 assistants on the beach that were supposed to gather everyone up and tell them to look up. You can imagine how well that went. I had 20 minutes from the time the session ended for everyone to show up, position them, and take the photos. The conference attendance is just over 2,000 people, so I'd guess around half showed up. The photo is a stitch of 24 images. Each image was taken with the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS with the 1.4x Extender II attached. Focal length was 280mm and shot with the 5D Mark II. Shot in manual mode with aperture at f/9, shutter speed 1/320, and ISO 100. Camera was in the vertical position. Lighting was sun only. The final resolution of that image is 17048 x 3789 pixels. Since you really can't see anything in the first picture, here's a 100% crop to show you the level of detail the image has. (Lower left corner of photo.) Given the circumstances and exactly how much control I had over the shoot, I'm alright with the results. The organizer that thought the group shot would be a great idea absolutely loved it, so that's really what matters. Gear, Feedback (eBay

Hinson Goldmember More info | Mar 08, 2009 08:21 | #13 JaCuff; awesome shot. I can only imagine how hectic it was putting this together. My two largest shots (neither of which I can post) were 1) a highschool graduating class of about 150 in a gym. Shoot went great but had to reshoot because one kid came running in late. Sat down in front and only after we got back to lab did I discover the giant McDonalds drink cup sitting between his legs on the front row. 2) a church group of about 200 outdoors on a cold windy day. By myself, I used a bullhorn to try to wrangle them into position while I stood on the top of my vehicle. The only problem was that with only a few exceptions, NONE spoke english and I speak no Spanish...that was a fun shoot, but they liked the results so I can't complain.
