Macro Speed Challenge #12 -
Sugar & Spice and ....
Have you ever looked at spices and other seasoning goods through the macro lens? If not, here's your chance. See what kinds of creative photos you can come up with using cooking or seasoning items as your subject. Whether it's your favorite herbs, spices, oil/vinegar... take your best macro shot of it. The only extra guideline I'll add is that the main subject of the photo must be edible and a spice/herb/seasoning. Other items (knives, plates, etc) can be in the shot, but they should not be the main subject of the photo.
There are all kinds of interesting spices in your kitchen. Go get creative with them in macro!

---------------

Standard Rules apply:

  2. Lens - Any lens, or attachment that can give Macro photos (ex. extension tubes, bellows, macro filters, reverse mounted lens and of course a true macro lens.).

Well, you folks didn't make this easy, but you did make me hungry looking at the photos! All the garlic, oil, sugar, spices, herbs, sweets was making my mouth water. I had to review them over dinner. :)

There were some great entries this week!! Thanks to everyone who participated. I hope you had fun shooting. I was looking to see how creative and detailed you could get with this challenge. Rather than trying to comment on them all (which could take a while), here are my top 3:

Monty28428 (Cinnamon sticks) - I really liked the patterns of the cinnamon sticks and the shadows. It was a nice arrangement. I see them in the spice can on end but hadn't thought about photographing them.

Frenchfx (Mrs. Dash) - Nice, colorful, detailed picture with great selective focus and composition of the spices. I never tried Mrs. Dash, but maybe I will now.

and my vote for the winner this week goes to...
ghud321 (Salt & Pepper Yin-Yang) - I loved the creativity of your shot! The detail on the peppercorns was great, and though the white of the salt around the edge seemed a little bright at first, it wasn't too much. The more I looked at the shot the more I liked it. The placement of the single salt grain and single peppercorn must've been a bit tricky. Congratulations!!

Thanks again to everyone. I loved looking at your shots. I think that's half the fun of macro, being able to see things that are small as we normally don't see them. I liked something about every single entry, and picking a single winner was a challenge of its own!
