I don't feel quite right about them, HELP

Hi,
My friend is admitted for a musical and I'm working on his profolio. The picture came out kind of plain to me. How can I improve them?
C&C are much needed.

I like number 3. In the others, his posing is contrived----he seems to be overposing.
You have done an excellent job on your end, with lighting and exposures.

I will add that #3 looks like an image from a brochure or pamphlet form a play or performance----as in one from an actor's bio. Very nice.

I agree with Andrew - No 3 is the most natural-looking. All the rest seem artificial and old-fashioned (as far as the poses are concerned). Nothing wrong with the technique though!

The stripes are a bit distracting to me....maybe shoot with solid color shirt?

I like number 3, too. If you want to make the face looks naturally better, I have used portraitprofessional software. It is so awesome!!!

Surely, if you want a natural effect, fiddling about with software is the antithesis?

That portrait professional is cool. I'll have to look into that. Will that work with PSE6?

#1 lacks 'pop' with lighting. #5's an awkward pose... but they're better than my portraits!

#3 with a more recent shave.

I agree with everybody else on the best one being number three.

Although I like picture 2 and 4 as well. It helps he's got a nice smile anyway.

Overall I'd say pretty well done!!

Like most everyone here, I prefer #3, which has the most natural look. The pose is also very well done.
