Well, I have now tested all four of the new cameras available at my local dealer (all spoken for, by the way, but he wanted to see the results as much as I did). The picture below shows a comparison of the four brand-new cameras. As you can clearly see from this comparison, one and only one of these models falls well within the appropriate specs. . .all of the others clearly deviate beyond acceptable limits. I am worried that if I order now, I will get one of the ones that is abnormal. Would I be better off waiting a couple of months to maximize my chances of getting one of the good ones?

Buy all four, then try to pawn the remaining three off to unsuspecting EBay victims -- they'll probably never be able to tell the difference:)!

ah, you obviously have fantasy priority selected. Try manual, then you'll be a real photographer.

I was able to get a pretty good shot last night, and had what I thought was just one spot, so I was pretty stoked about having a great sensor. I made sure long exposure noise reduction was turned on, and turned on CF4.2 to value 3 (annotate all focus points and fully label exif data).

However, when I did a 100% crop, I found this? I think my camera is trying to tell me something, or Canon has been infiltrated by the competition....

Oh, great thread.

I've decided to quit my day job and become a professional photographer. I plan to start shooting weddings possibly this weekend.

What lens cap should I get that will give me the best pictures?

Money is no object, I want the best.

What technique do you use for shooting with the lens cap on?

Oh yeah, money is tight, I have a couple of pennies and 1/2 used tube of chap stick.

This is the best I could do with my lenscap on. I had to go with the nifty, since the caps from my other lenses just didn't fit me right.

Also, this is my first post with my new 50D. Hence, the duck.

Two birds with one stone! :D-Yay!

Canon L lens caps are the best. When you go to purchase one, be sure the word Lens on the outside of the box begins with a capital red L. Now, there are two main kinds of Lens Caps: The black ones with red stripes aound them and the white ones. White ones are considered better because they reflect the hot pixels better. Now, it is true that you could also consider Sigmund, Keeno, or Ramrod lens caps. Some people prefer to start with lower level lens caps (LLLC) and trade their way up as they become more secure about how to take pictures with the caps on the lenses. In your case, however, since you are quitting your day job prior to actually learning how to shoot, I think you should just go ahead and get several L lens caps to start with, especially since you are going to begin by shooting weddings this weekend. Oh, and if you want to look really professional, be sure to put a feather in your, uh, cap. (Duck feathers work best.) If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to ask. After all, how else are you going to learn?
