I pushed the saturation and contrast on this one. Did I over do it? I was afraid it was oversharpened

By the way, can't i use a light meter to get better lens cap [on lens] shot? what f-stop i should choose?

Well, that depends on whether or not you want to isolate the hot pixels from the background. To isolate them you'll need to use a wide aperture.

But keep in mind that if you use a wide aperture, your focus will be a lot more critical -- it'll be easier to get the hot pixels out of focus and thus ruin the shot. It's best, if you can, to use live view for focusing on the hot pixels in that case.

If your camera doesn't let you see the hot pixels while in live view then you'll need to send it in for servicing.

The sharpening is OK, but there is waaaaayyy too much contrast. Honestly, I suggest you read the manual! See especially pages 12 (diagram a), 14 (second paragraph), 158 (section 2, part b) and all of chapter 7. You should also refer to "Lens Cap Photography for Dummies" (Chapter 12) and Ken Rockwell's "The Lens Cap Does Not Matter! Second Edition" prior to taking up our valuable time with questions like this.

Well I thought that one of the dots was really just a sensor blob since I am shooting at such high apertures to make these visible. Well, I tried to get rid of it by using the Giottos blower, and it attacked me...

It amazes me how the inside of a lens cap seems to eliminate hot pixels.

I don't have an L lens cap yet so I had to make do with the only one I have right now. But in order to take the best picture with the lens cap on, I metered well, used multiple flash, put in some halogen lights, cranked up the ISO, fiddled with the inside of the lens to crank the F stop to .06, set shutter to bulb mode, and ran exposure for 13 minutes in order to pull in as much light through the cap as possible. I wanted to try a longer exposure but at this point the duck was fed up with waiting around, and just after the shot was done he walked out of the studio muttering something about "despicable".

Guess he should be very glad it wasn't a Rocket blower!

"A Local photographer was killed earlier, when his rocket blower turned and attacked him exploding unexpectedly. Neighbors said he was a nice guy, always helpful but on the day in question he had been observed squeezing the blower in a suspicious manner."

Should I use a filter with the lens cap when shooting under these conditions?

Definitely. It's the best way to keep the lens cap from possibly damaging the front element of your lens. Didn't you know?

So I put my 70-200 2.8 on my new 5D Mark II, loaded up the lens cap (I always store my lens with the lens cap OFF, as prescribed by the friendly folks at Nikon Cafe) and pulled the trigger.....

Is there any news lens cap coming soon in the market, my lens cap is an old version now, i want lens cap Mark VII now, but i hope it will not be so expensive, i can't pay more than $50, it is too much, so i will wait until the prices go down to about $20-30 then i may buy one.
