So I put my 70-200 2.8 on my new 5D Mark II, loaded up the lens cap (I always store my lens with the lens cap OFF, as prescribed by the friendly folks at Nikon Cafe) and pulled the trigger.....

No one got this?

I was afraid of that......

OH MY, my lens cap dropped on the floor, where i can fix it? how much to fix it?

Is there any news lens cap coming soon in the market, my lens cap is an old version now, i want lens cap Mark VII now, but i hope it will not be so expensive, i can't pay more than $50, it is too much, so i will wait until the prices go down to about $20-30 then i may buy one.

I'd wait a while Tareq.
You know what happened with the 1D mark III AF issue, and then the 5D mark II black dot problem... The lens cap mark VII might have all sort of problems? and even worse... Nikon may bring out something better.

It's just not worth rushing into it!

This is the first I've heard of lens cap Mark VII. How long has the rumour been going around - no mention of it on dpreview. How many hot pixels will it have? I hope that the techs at Canon don't bump them up too much - I couldn't stand the endless discussions; nor the smirks on Noink owner's faces when the hot pixels only go to ISO 12800.

Maybe i should ignore it and start to think of hasselblad lens cap better, maybe pricey but worth every penny, and i can't keep upgrading my Canon lens cap again and again later, so i should stick out with hasselblad lens cap and never look back :p:lol::lol::p

This is not a lens cap issue. Did you, by any chance, remove the anti-alias filter from your sensor? The moire pattern is quite noticeable. It is attractive in an artistic way, but will not contribute to appealing glamour/nude shots or the requisite duck shot.

We did a test this morning (early) CST using this lens and several different types of lens caps, and found that in addition to the obvious spots, there are also subtle and insidious spots that only show up when you look just right.
Here we are in the process of getting set up for this test:

And here are the results, clearly showing these elusive spots that happened to have been caught at just the right moment, thanks to the precise measurement techniques used and the professional expertise of everyone involved with this test. Please note that this latest scientific test, which used a Model 34K-87-^L Grid, clearly demonstrates that the "hot pixel issue" and the "dead pixel issue" may in fact be related issues!

For a really long time i have been deciding if i should by a 24mm L lens or not. I have a 17-40 ans 24-70 already. as im quite happy with the 24-70 i wanted to test the Dof and sharpness at 24. If anyone who has the 24L could put up their results I could compare. However I think the 24-70 hold up very well :)

Canon L lens caps are the best. When you go to purchase one, be sure the word Lens on the outside of the box begins with a capital red L. Now, there are two main kinds of Lens Caps: The black ones with red stripes aound them and the white ones. White ones are considered better because they reflect the hot pixels better. Now, it is true that you could also consider Sigmund, Keeno, or Ramrod lens caps. Some people prefer to start with lower level lens caps (LLLC) and trade their way up as they become more secure about how to take pictures with the caps on the lenses. In your case, however, since you are quitting your day job prior to actually learning how to shoot, I think you should just go ahead and get several L lens caps to start with, especially since you are going to begin by shooting weddings this weekend. Oh, and if you want to look really professional, be sure to put a feather in your, uh, cap. (Duck feathers work best.) If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to ask. After all, how else are you going to learn?

Thank you. I want an L Lens cap soooooo bad that I went and ordered one from this online retailer that said it is not accepting orders for the next few hours. I called them instead and pleaded with them to Next Day Air an 'L' cap, they asked me a few questions (I will get to those in a moment) and gave me a tracking number which means I NOW HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE UPS TRUCK TO DELIVER MY LENS CAP! How will I survive? I will start a thread about my waiting for UPS to deliver my lens cap.

About the other questions that this retailer had for me:

1) What lens do you have?
- I need some help here, I don't have one of those yet. Do you really need one for good pictures?

2) What camera do you have?
- Again, is this really necessary?

I can't wait for my lens cap to arrive. . .

Hmm, I guess if you have to explain it. . .

Perhaps a disclaimer that all odd jokes require wiki links (external link).

Perhaps. I am still reeling from the realization that I am now a total canon geek.

Might have to call Ashton Kutcher for a little intervention.....

What do most toggers do with the camera once they take it off the lens cap? I bought one of those string things - you stick it to the cap and loop it around the lens. The cam then just hangs there, safe and sound, while you use the cap. The plastic construction of the 350D comes into its own as it doesn't cause so much cap shake as the heavier bodies. It must be hell for pros if they use the string method when they're shooting all day - must make their arms ache horribly. I wonder if Canon are aware of this problem - perhaps they should make the 1DIII with plastic bodies.
