I'll be visiting New York City in May and want to take just one camera and one lens. I'll bring my 40D but was wondering what you think would be the best lens to capture some of the usual tourist attractions. Please see my sig for a gear list. We'll also try to catch a show or two and was wondering if they will even let a camera in the building. I'm taking a bus tour and won't have any place to leave it. Could someone please help?

1Dx - 5DIII - 40D - Canon 24-70LII, 100L macro, 135L, 16-35L, 70-200 f4 and 100-400L lenses

- "Very good" is the enemy of "great." Sometimes we confuse the two.

17-55 no doubt.

if two add the 100-400

Dunno how comfortable I would be walking around NY with a 100-400 lol

Yeah, the 17-55 makes the most sense to me too on a 40D.

Yeah, take the 17-55, that's a no brainer. But for the weight and pocket size of the nifty, why not bring that with you as well?

I was in New York this past Christmas, and I'm glad I had my nifty with me. I got some great shots with it. My only other lens is the 18-55 kit lens though, which was pretty hurtin'. But that's a story for another day.

I think the 100-400 should suffice. Maybe take the 17-55 if you have room ;).

17-55IS, I'd normally say the 24-105L IS, but the short end on the 17-55 will be much better for architecture than that on the 24-105.

Definably the 17-55.
I went to NYC for the first time a couple months ago before I got my 17-55 and I borrowed a POTN members 17-40 f/4 L. I used this lens 85% of the time and the other 15% was from my 70-200 f/4 L before I upgraded to the 2.8 IS.

Here a few shots:

Best of luck and have a lot of fun!

OP sorry for the minor thread jack.

Hey Henry,

Took a look at your site and work and I really like what I see.
Nice to see more young photographers like ourselves and there work.
Keep it up!

Scott
