Thank you. So to conclude, you claim that bringing the 17-40, 24L and 85L is sufficient? I think that I will try to take out the 17-40 more the coming weeks and see how it influences my picture taking.

I just hope that switching lenses in NYC doesn't draw too much unwanted attention ...

Thanks again for you comments!

i agree with that lens selection. as far as attracting attention i dont think you would have a problem depending on where you go. i till this date never had an incident and ive been to some rough areas out here in nyc

Take no lenses at all.....and make B&H your first port of call so you can buy some new ones!!

And on a slightly less facetious note.....another vote for the 17-55!!

I'm heading to NYC the first week of April so this thread has been great. I don't have the 17-55 but I do have a 17-50mm Tamron, 70-200mm and a nifty fifty to take with :D

I'll be visiting New York City in May and want to take just one camera and one lens. I'll bring my 40D but was wondering what you think would be the best lens to capture some of the usual tourist attractions. Please see my sig for a gear list. We'll also try to catch a show or two and was wondering if they will even let a camera in the building. I'm taking a bus tour and won't have any place to leave it. Could someone please help?

We just went to NY and saw Mary Poppins. Had no problem taking a large camera bag (Canon Digital Gadget Bag 200DG) into the theater. They even allowed photos to be taken before and after the show. Cameras were not allowed out during the show.

Hope that helps.

Tareq-

One last thought, I'm not sure where you will be staying whether with a friend or hotel. If at a hotel, you might want to consider a lockable bag, like the airport security. I tell you I love mine. It gave me such peace of mind last year when I went to cooperstown with my sons for a baseball tournament. We arrived a day early so we could do the museums, and I locked up the big lens in the hotel room, and took my smaller stuff with me for the walking tours. Nothing beats it........

I will stay in a friend house, so it is not a problem, and i now there are many hotels have that security lockable places to keep important things, i will use one if available if i will stay in a hotel.
Just i hope in that crowded city i don't get any trouble of any kind, even so then i hope it will fine and pass it.

Thanks for your post :-)

Yep, I guess all those people suggesting the 17-55 didn't catch the fact that you don't have a crop body.
