70-200 f2.8 is

I,ve just received a couple of days ago a new 70-200 f2.8 is, thing is when I switch on the Is system I can hear the gyros working quite loudly,as in when I am looking thru the viewfinder. Checked with a mate of mine and he states he can only hear his if he puts his ear to the lens barrel where the gyros are situated and definitely not when hes at the viewfinder,Is this normal or does it need to be back in the hands of Canon??

I don't hear them on my 100 - 400. I'd send it back.

Take it back and try it along side others.

Well, "quite loudly" is hard to quantify.

I agree with first 2 posts, compare to others, return if needed. For that kind of money, you want to be satisfied.

I can hear my 1-4 in a quiet room but not when i m using it outside... i also bought a 70-200 2.8 IS so ill get back to you when i get mine

I can definitely hear mine kick in. It's fairly loud and I can even feel it start to work too. From what I've read, it's normal. I did a search here on POTN for the very same thing when I first got my 70-200. I don't hear a thing on my 100-400.

I can hear mine kick in. Just wait til you see/hear it completely kick in and you see your frame snap into place in Servo. It can shock you if you're not ready for it.

It's normal to hear and feel the IS on the 70-200 kick in. the 1-4 is an older generation IS and isn't as good. My 1-4 is isn't nearly as loud or pronounced as the 7-2 2.8. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I hear my 100-400 way more than the 70-200 but neither is what I would consider loud.
Matter of fact the 70-200 is pretty close to silent.
take it back to where you got it and compare at the store with others.
