I first posted some in this thread: Jack Frost - The view from Mom's window.
They were pretty low in contrast.

In these, I tried to bring the white crystals out of the white snow background using Blend Modes.

1. Do you see the Phoenix?

IMAGE: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/PhotosGuy/Forum%20Junk/Frost_1-24-09_0145A.jpg?t=1233458723

2. How about now?

IMAGE: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/PhotosGuy/Forum%20Junk/Frost_1-24-09_0180A.jpg?t=1233458811

3. I overdid the PP, but I was curious how it would come out.

4. I did a reshoot the next morning. In just one day, you can see what's happened to the "Phoenix Rising" crystals.

5. The processing worked well in this one.

6. This looks like a little landscape.

8. I tried two gelled strobe exposures for this one.

It's pretty tough to bring out detail in a properly exposed white against a blown white background. A lot of the sharp detail just seems to disappear due to flare. The next time I get a chance to shoot frost, I'll try to put a darker background well behind it so I'll still get some light from the side on the crystals.

Thanks a lot for the comments! Here's a closer "bird" shot of #6.

I don't get nice frost in Cincinnati......not that I could even come close to what you did!

The Phoenix is stunning. I'd like it in RED. :D
