Bibble owners have been waiting and waiting and finally they have releases a first public preview of version 5. As with all preview software install at your own risk.

Thanks! I've been waiting to try v5 out.

I have just tried it out - I hope the final realese is better - In ten mins It has frozen the PC twice, and the image became 'broken up' in the editing window once as well.

Ho hum...... reminds me of the problems with an old version I tried a few years ago!

Shame, it looks a good product. (Lightroom clone? :-))

I was able to install the beta on my Ubuntu 8.04 system (64 bit) so that's a big improvement. It does look a lot like Lightroom ;) So far, it hasn't frozen my system or crashed.

I wanted it to look like Lightroom. Anyhow, unless the final release is better, the Pro license is $200...ouch. I can get LR2 studiously (!) for $99

I will be watching this closely. I have LR2.3 and while it does the job I like it, but don't necessarily LOVE it. I watched the video's and I like the layout of Bibble 5. I also like how you add layer masks, via clicking around an object. I wish LR would give other options rather than "painting" masks on.

Bibble 5 looks to be a really nice RAW editor. I think pricing will dictate how much of the LR market it can take.

+1 on this. I am a LR (2.x) fanatic, but really wish I could have just a little more "oomph" in the localized edits. I viewed all the Bibble 5 videos and it looks like Bibble has localized edits (that they call layers) that I currently dream of.

I heard or read somewhere that Lightroom is going to go to places that we can't even imagine. A reviewer got to view the 'skunk works' but was under a Non Disclosure Agreement so he couldn't give details. Its my hope that LR 3.0 will give us better editing functionality (I'd be happy with inverse selections).

I'm going to keep an eye on Bibble though.

Bibble are considering an Edu. license for students, I'll be watching that closely.

LightZone already has one, and IMHO is a vastly superior program (watch this space though)

I'm a Bibble lover - Have been using B4 extensively and was eagerly awaiting B5. I gave it a whirl and I've got a few screenshots and output images here:

It runs GREAT on my quad core monster, the Old IBM t43 Laptop has a really hard time running it. Probably because the Preview requires SSE2, the final version will support SSE.

I use Bibble because it's fast and easy, rarely use anything else. Love loading up a bunch of images, do my edits, tag the keepers and send them to a batch queue. A few seconds later, my jpegs are done.

I guess Lightroom could do the same if I had been a Windows or Mac user :)

That's why I love it too! :D I just wish it was a little stabler. Check Bibble's support forum, it is crashing more than a New York taxi-rank at rush hour. My processor supports SSE2....so....no exuse!!

Any special tricks or hacking involved? Or did it just install? Have been looking to go 64 bit with my Ubuntu, but Bibble has been holding me back... Didn't think it would work?

No special tricks but I had installed b4 with the 32-bit libraries loaded. I had to specify a "force-architecture" option to install b4. B5 just installed without anything special.
