Upgrading from a Digital Rebel

I've been toying with the idea of upgrading my Digital Rebel for some time. Even though I'm not that good of a photographer, I need the AI-Servo for sports that the DReb doesn't offer.

So, would you spend $949 USD for a new 10D, or spend the extra for the 20D? Is it worth $550 more?

How about RebXT, I think it would be wiser to choose latest technology and it's around your budget. It's fast as Canon 20D I have.

I saw this today in this forum regarding a new 300D Hack. Maybe worth seeing what the new AI-Servo Work has accomplished...

I opted to buy the 20D and have not been sorry. Though the XT was tempting, I was afraid I would outgrow it too quickly. I like to shoot sports, so it has been worth every penny!

I have the 300D, Wasia hack and AI Servo at the push of a button...what are you talking about?

AI servo doesn't work on the wasia hack.

I upgraded from the 300D to the 20D and i'm very happy I did.

· Left button press turns AF off, release turns AF on again.

Effectively this puts the lens in manual mode while the left button is pressed.Pressing it quickly when in AI-Servo mode will therefore release the shutter.

You loose AF during button press though. This means that AI servo does not support predictive focusing.

You can only shoot one time.

The shutter button must be released before shooting again.

Can someone explain what I'm missing here? The Drebel professes to have AI servo AF (page 123 of the 300D manual). What am I not understanding here?

You can only force a reliable and predictable AI servo in sports mode. In any of the creative modes, AI servo is basically non-existant. You can't pick to be in AI servo through any of the options.

I had the XT (350D) and took it back to swap over for the 20D, best decision I ever made.

What I did not like about the XT;
Small small small, and hard to balance against lens size/weight.
Plastic, felt cheap, vulnerable to damage.
Continuous shooting was good, but not that good.
CF door loose fitting.
Flash mechanism seemed very flimsy.

So far with the 20D;
Superb build quality.
Super fast continuous shooting.
No annoying rattles and clicks on any of the body parts (on the camera, ha ha).
Screen brighter.
