Orion Timelapse

EDIT: Just realized the upload onto youtube has compressed it so much you can hardly see anything. Also it seems like the colours are lost in the stars..
This sucks lol.. Anyone know where else i can upload the video? Or exactly what settings to create the video? As in frames per second.. What format etc..

I've tried a couple and YouTube is definitely crap for it...even on the high quality setting. I registered with Vimeo.com, which lets you upload HD, but not sure how to specify HD when I upload, so they look a bit rubbish too. I'd be interested to know of a reliable video hosting site which doesn't kill the quality.

The settings you used look pretty good though. I go with 30s exposures, and try to get something like at least 15 frames per second on the video, otherwise it's a little jumpy.

But then i have seen some amazing quality on youtube.. hmmm
i will try and hunt around for some good video upload sites. If i find one i will let you know Actually will give Vimeo a try..

Vimeo does work, but I'm just not sure how to specify high quality. Here's my first Vimeo attempt, which as you can see, is poor;

But then using the same frames I made another video, and it worked better. Seems to pause before getting started, but the stars are a lot clearer. Ignore the bit at the end. I wondered what it would look like to take a series of shots, from 1/10th of a second to 30s, and put all the frames into a timelapse...just looks silly!

I think as long as the video itself is around 1024x768 for each frame then Vimeo can handle it and won't degrade the quality.

A friend of mine who lives out in the desert without light pollution has been noticing light flares/flashes coming from around the Orion belt... did you notice any of that while taking these pictures or anyone know what they could be?

Adrena1in - The 2nd video deff is better quality. Perhaps i will just keep mucking around with the settings and do more testing. But i know for a fact that when i play my video on my computer i can see the stars more focused and blue (unlike in youtube where the stars just look white). Anyways i will upload a video onto Vimeo and see how i go. ta

Xtermatrix- Nope didnt notice it Then again i dont have a zoom lens or a telescope to see it.. Unless you could see it from your eyes??

Yeah you can see it with the naked eye.
