Even if you refused to sign for it that's not a guarantee that you wouldn't see it again. Back in November, I refused a heavy damaged box from Amazon that contained an expensive lens. UPS showed up at my door a couple days later with an unmarked box for me to sign for. Here's what was inside.

They just re-boxed it. Now that's customer service.

Huh? So what did you do? Did you sign for it?

Yeah, I signed for it. I get deliveries all the time. Did not in a million years think my lens was coming back for a return engagement.

Not related to the handling of packages but I once paid for two day shipping and had another item that was scheduled to be delivered on the same day. The one with ground shipping arrived and the two day one didn't. WHY?! Checking the status online said the package was out for delivery in the morning but by 6pm that night it said something along the lines of "Package delayed".

If you want reliability, FedEx is the way to go.

And keep in mind, UPS will beat the hell out of the replacement too, they just won't do it in front of you.

This and the same guy is going to make the delivery (the guy you made friends with by reporting him)

Yes, Kevin, I know. But he'll get reported again if he keeps it up.

Camera and lens seem fine. The boxes inside were fine. I would've preferred a bit more bubble wrap from B&H, but so far, so good... Haven't had much of a chance to use them as I can't afford the flash yet (that's next month) and it was dark by the time the battery charged. But for indoors in low-light at 2.8, I was pleasantly surprised.

Forgot how much of a mammoth the Canon bodies and the brick is compared to my previous cameras (Nikon D80 (work)/D90). But I'll get used to it. It's really going to be about what kind of images I get out of it. I think even though I've had issues with the 24-70 in the past, I'm going to have to make it my friend. Already thinking ahead, I see a wide angle in my future. Can't wait go get out there and do some shooting!

Weird thing is, I've had no gear since Thanksgiving and my inlaws in England used to look at our site every day for new pics. They knew we were broke, so they didn't mention it - until last night. I was happy to report I indeed had a camera again and could show them their grandkids.

Thanks to all for your input and support. ;o)

You actually did the RIGHT thing by signing for the package. B&H will stand by the products they sold you. And, it's the shipper's responsibility (not yours!) to engage UPS in any claims issue if your gear was damaged during transit. You can complain all you want to UPS, but you're not the customer paying the bill!

Boy, I really wish people knew how to handle carrier/claim issues! There would certainly be a lot less heartache on the receiver end. That means us.

My Stepfather told me today that he bought a D300. I almost died. It took me months to come to terms with going back to Canon. The D300 fell short only because Nikon doesn't have the lens variety and are overall more expensive... Damn him! LOL.

I love my UPS man. He takes very good care of my stuff. I've never had issues with my deliveries. But if I did, and it wasn't sure who's fault it was, I'd probably open the box up and try it, at least. I hate waiting.

But keep in mind you are now responsible to repackage the item, obtain an RMA, and then make arangements for it to be shipped back to the merchant.

It sucks that it happened right in front of you, but, as has been said by others, that is probably not the roughest treatment it got on its way to you. Pick the battles you have some control over. Hope everything turns out OK.

Camera and lens seem fine.

This is a good thing :) - meaning having a camera again. Very glad to hear you were able to make this purchase.

These days I'm always on the lookout for good news - from any quarter. (I also make it a point to avoid watching the TV news)

Thanks Kevin. Now I've got to get my wimpy self outside to get some decent pics! Brrr... I hate the cold. My husband just mentioned a possible Disney trip this spring after he gets his much anticipated bonus. A big surprise and I think it would definitely do our family good. Just have to sort out details on a budget. I'll need to rent a golf cart to lug the brick around, lol.
