Anyone here used these at all? They appear to have no power control (other than maybe a switch that cuts the power in half or something like that). I can't find any info on them online.

Hi Rudi,

No power control at all. Changing distance the subject or using modifiers or ND gels is the only way to cut power. That's all I know about them.

Thanks Robert! Geez, things were DIFFICULT in the old days, huh? :D

Anyone know what power those two models are?

Pretty sure I've used one of them in the past, though I can't remember which model. I recall that the exposure and the noise of the flash reminded me of an EL500 at full power so the best guess I can give you is that one of them is about 500w/s.

Keep in mind that these were made & sold in the pre-digital age when most studio photographers were shooting MF with small apertures and low ISO film - with a DSLR you will almost certainly have too much power. With ND gels on the lights to control the ratios and ND filters on the lens to control the exposure you could theoretically get decent results but IMO it's not worth the time and effort.

If you want a good Elinchrom strobe with great build and performance for very little money then something like an EL500 which has adjustable power would be a much better bet.

It looks like the Elinchrom 11 is 200Ws and the Elinchrom 22 is 400Ws...
