FOX News St. Louis Slams Circuit City on their prices. They shopped the same items at many local stores - including Best Buy. Circuit City had the higher price for all the items. The only deal was lower end PAS digital camera. They averaged $50.00 - $70.00 cheaper. They warned people shopping for HD TV's to shop around before you buy. Computer items were higher than Best Buy. Go Figure.......

Why would they waste resources covering a chain that nearly defunct?

No doubt their station motto is: "If it happens in St. Louis, it's news to us!"

Why do people think everything at a Liquidation sale is a good deal? The point of Liquidation sales is to MAKE THE COMPANY MONEY, not to GIVE YOU A GOOD DEAL.

I tell my customers this all the time. Yeah, buy that crappy P&S here for $30 off, but please - dear god, go to Best Buy or Walmart instead of paying $25 for a damn 2gb SD card.

I'm not even going to lie about it though, if you're a douchebag to me - I will not tell you about a better deal down the street.

Because of the way that they market themselves on TV (not your fault). Their TV ads attempt to give the impression that there are good deals and to hurry up and buy now because we're going out of business.

I went to a Circuit City in Bradenton a week ago and thought all of the prices stunk, so I left.

Yeah, Bradenton's prices on anything other than stupid things like DVDs or anything that was previously on clearance aren't worth it.
If you head up to Tampa, though, they're at 30-40% off on camera equipment- including lenses. We're still at 20%.
Another example: The "The City" store on University in Sarasota is a higher percentage off on TVs than we are. DIfferent liquidation company.

Where are you located locally?

I think that's called effective marketing.

The liquidators that have been assigned to these stores still want to sell this stuff at a profit for sure and are probably incentified to do just that. It's still valuable equipment in there and there is nothing that says it has to be given away just because the business is on the way out.

The story mentioned in the OP seems to be more based around saving the non-thinking masses from themselves and assuming that if its on sale at CC it MUST be the best deal!

I wonder if this was at the 10% off or the 25% off that started this weekend?

And, just saying, but for prices that aren't so "amazing", there are enough people buying crap to stack lines throughout the store.

As said earlier.. Caveat Emptor...
If people are stupid enough to impulse buy without checking first, then its their loss.

So, let me get this straight. Everything I see in an advertisement isn't 100% true? ;)
