Anyone else seen these, used one, or been tempted by them? I've been drooling over them for over a year now as I've always wanted a housing for one of my cameras but never have been able to stomach the prices... So a housing for a P&S is the next logical solution, but I don't like any of canon's P&Ss so I end up with other P&Ss w/o housing options....
Well I'd seen these advertised, but couldn't find out much about them. After stalking their site a bit I saw not only were they cameras built specifically to be used in housings and to be as compact as possible, but they also were working on a wide angle option. Well that took longer than expected, but it's finally out and I finally broke down and picked up the gopro wide motorsports kit:
it's $199 @ B&H with free shipping, with that you get the camera, housing AND motorsports mounting kit (suction cup and arm in that pic, then a bunch of other adhesive options). To me that's a pretty good value considering you get the housing as well. (Also, if you're considering one, a co-worker was so stoked on mine he's looking and found them for ~$157 shipped on fleebay.)
Anywho, it's the most basic camera you're likely to use, but it does it's job pretty well honestly. It takes 2xAAA batteries. They warn you it'll eat alkalines like it's it's job. It takes 2gb SD max. With that setup, it basically goes until you either kill the batteries or fill the card. The instructions say it's good for 56min of video or ~19xx shots in the time lapse mode. It also has a 3 shot burst mode as well as a single shot mode. 2 buttons on the case (power/mode and shutter) and the latch and that's it. The LCD doesn't give you any image replay, it's just for mode settings.
First thing I did with it was test the housing and mount with the best possible tester I know:
it takes some decent pics considering:
here's a timelapse of that sequence (you might have to play it through twice, sometimes the first time through it's 3 frames then done):

here's another with him in the car:

and here's a video I shot with it (and quickly edited in iMovie, my first movie with it so don't kill me on the editing :lol
...anyway, I bought this more for doing some fun things skiing, sailing, surfing and other outdoor fun stuff, but you're seeing some initial "tests" just playing with it around the house and in the car. All in for $200 this offers a ton of fun options for getting into time lapse photography as well as wet/underwater photography which are 2 things I've wanted to do anyway.
Oh, and I now this isn't a canon DSLR, but it's also not a canon P&S or G series... So I put it where the most potential buyers might be. This isn't really a P&S or G series replacement or even option, it's a fun option to open some doors creatively for those of us that might want it.
