Swings and Roundabouts eh? :D

I still have my 1987 copy of Watchmen. There's no way on earth that any film would be as good as the graphic novel, but I'll give it the benefit of my doubt...

I only read the book myself last year, it should be a cracking film regardless I reckon. It'd better be as its got a lot to live up to.

Trailer looks quite cool, and I liked the old song by the smashing pumpkins!

V for Vendetta was a pretty cool film. It missed out chucks of the original book, but they did pretty good at it.

I have an '87 copy also, but it was my cousin who bought it. He gave it to me about 12 years ago. Absolutely love it - i wonder if original copies will have any increased value after the films release? From i have seen they have taken the storyline quite literally from the book, but have taken liberties with the character design to "sex them up" a bit. I mean, the nightowl would look crappy portrayed in an action film with massive middle age spread and dull brown costume. Zack Snyder has said in many interviews that he hasnt messed with the story for fear of being lynched by fans of the novel They have also made the Tales of the Black Freighter as an animated companion to the film which i thought was a nice touch.

That sounds pretty cool, I liked the Black Freighter sub-story. In Watchmen, however, it was a counterpoint to the main storyline. Separately, it won't work as well.

Most of the genius in Watchmen was in the design of the novel, the way that the panels were arranged to enhance the mood of the page, or to provide pacing.

Well, today I was given 30 days notice that my job will be made redundant. :(

On a brighter side, I can apply for another similar job, all be it at regional level. Think I have a 1 in 3 chance of getting it. Let's hope so.

Bit of a @@@@ day...

Very sorry to hear that. Hope your plans come off. Sometimes redundancy like this can be a blessing in disguise.

Wasn't overly sure about it but I thought Stephen Fry was quite good.

Read them all (except for the 4th that wasn't written by Ludlum) and quite agree - there's not a lot of similarities at all and they certainly don't follow the same story. I was quite disappointed because the stories in the books are really good whereas the films were all action and little plot.
