@ Matt
50mm @ f/1.8?

Yeah, it was groups of three. I was team capitain! And you submit 5 of your best pics per person so 15 images per team. Voted upon that. Its interesting overall and looking forward to the others results. I know mine rank in the high caliber section (first time I am praising my work) but I not compared to those guys overall before.

Following on from ym post the other day about people on facebook stealing images from flickr i decided i would let one of my friends know that what they are doing is actually copyright theft and she could be liable for copyright infringement if the original image owner so wanted to take it further..
This was the response from one of her friends:

Sorry Jo, I couldn't resist replying to this. If you look at Flickr's terms of service, it clearly states in there that you have no rights about how any content is used if you make it publicly available to the web, and in fact Yahoo have the right to: "the royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive and fully sub-licensable right and licence to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform and display such Content worldwide and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed."

So, nothing you could do with any of the photos on Flickr could come close to what people are signing away their rights to when they hit that innocuous little "Yes, I agree to your TOS" check-box!!! ;-)a

Man it's sad that I cared enough to research this at this time on a Sunday morning - I obviously didn't drink enough last night!

IInteresting read actually as i looked into it and it seems he is right!

Dan

I thought Flickr had changed their T&C because of the furore about the "global" nature of what you have copied??? Having said that even if they have not it does not excuse or give permission for the likes of Facebook members to purloin images willy nilly without risking a copyright comeback does it??? Being a Flickr member does not mean "you" can use the images as per the T&Cs does it???

IMO the responder you 'quote' is driving a coach & horses through a gate with no opening i.e. someone should report him to Facebook & Flickr and see what they say about the matter ~ nothing like getting someone banned for being a p**t

On a side note - when the Flickr terms first became "public" I ceased posting there and yes I have left those images I posted up because they had been there a while and as I recall I ticked the box about restricted use i.e. "All Rights Reserved"

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

Woohoo. Next trip abroad is all booked. Supposed to be a surprise for the missus' birthday in July so I hope she doesn't read this, but I'm taking her to Barcelona for 4 days. Of course photography never entered my mind at all when choosing a destination. ;)

I think i would have to photograph, i would break into too many pieces otherwise lol.

Its been a bit quiet on here recently and i have been very bored with the monotony of work also.

I was wondering if you guys would be interested in organising a weekly photo competition?

Nothing too serious, we could choose a random topic each Monday and all submit 1 image on the following Sunday. Winner chooses the next topic?
We could say that Exif data must be intact so that we know that the picture was taken that week too keep the playing field level?

I'm just very bored and could do with something like this to keep my attention - anyone up for it?

Sorry, I kind of guessed at the url.

It's basically squad-based wargames. You're given rifles with laser. It's a pretty physical day, but a huge amount of fun.
