This is a slave cabin on the grounds of Magnolia Plantation about 10 miles outside of Charleston, SC. Unbelievably it is mostly original (the siding is cypress which is extremely resistant to rot). It stands on the grounds along with several others just like it as a reminder of our history. The cabins were occupied thru the first half of this century by grounds keepers.

For those of you who are interested....this was post-processed in PS with some film grain and softening. It was also converted to mono then converted to a duotone.

Nice picture. I wouldn't have expected any of these to still be around. At least, not in such good condition.

My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.

Thanks! Yes, not just women!!!

The place is very interesting. There are rice fields (no longer in production) all over the 500 acres remaining on the plantation. You get a sense of the timelessness of the place. You also get an interesting feel for the immense size of these old plantations.

It looks like something straight out of a horror movie. Great shot.
