Spent last weekend, camping at a couple of fantastic beaches, firstly Taupo Bay. The following day, drove up to New Zealand's most Northern point by our roads - Cape Reigna, and on the way decided to drop by Matai Bay on the Karikari Peninsula to have a swim and some midday photos. I definitely wish to camp at Matai Bay in the future - it's the most amazing clear water I've seen (and I thought the Coromandel photos I posted few days ago was good water..basically fewer boats, fewer people = cleaner water)

Matai Bay is basically two smaller bays - Ohungahunga and Waikato Bays

And Karikari Beach (following pictures) is just across the isthmus of land

Overview of Waikato Bay - can see the burnt out grass, for two months of 30*C temperatures

Karikari Beach, on the Northern end of Karikari Peninsula - again the water colour was just phenomenal. I haven't touched up these pics

Looking West along Karikari Beach

A dinghy I found couple hundred metres along the beach.

Wasn't exactly creative with tripod and long shutter speeds, as it was simply too hot and humid! The other 95% of the time, I was swimming around, and photography came a distant second. . Can you blame me? :+P

   Those are stunning seascapes! How I wish I could go on holiday there right now :( We've got rain, snow, fog and slushy roads here :p

I can feel the warmth of the sun and the coolness of the sea water from here :)

Great pics! :D

Wow those waters look inviting, you need to invest in some scuba gear for your camera.

I think I made the best decision to spend summer out here.. One of the best on record, in terms of heat, sun hours, water temperatures ;)

Thanks Andy, would be a great idea.. Looked into the Ikelite system before, but very expensive. Be cheaper to just dip the camera under, get a few shots.. Break it, and buy another 1D :p

Thanks, I'm currently using Hi-tech filters, in a Lee holder :)
0.6 hard edge, and 0.3/0.6/0.9 soft, as well as a 1.2 ND. Mix and match depending on shots, but these were mostly with a soft edge 0.9

Yeah, absolutely. I probably won't have time now to camp at Matai Bay, but HIGHLY recommended. Heading to Cathedral Cove/Hot Water beach area again tomorrow, and the Mount on Sunday night.
