RTH behavioral sequence-"Where'd my lunch go?"

This RTH apparently thought he had a mouse or a vole but it turned out he didn't have anything. I was hoping he would have caught something but the fact that the prey got away provided an interesting show of the hawk digging in and looking to make sure. Thanks for viewing this sequence!

Here the RTH pounces on the elusive prey and covers with the wing. Note the nictitating membrane is activated in case the prey fights back.

Here he's stirring his talons around, adding some lift with the wings--kicking up grass in the process, trying to locate his lunch.

Finally, both talons are lifted off the ground and quite a bit of ground material is tossed into the air above his head.

Shortly after this he concedes and flies off.

Thank you everybody for your nice comments. Glad you liked the sequence! This is one instance where the quicker burst speed of the 40D over the XT was helpful. I really like that feature.
