I ordered a 17-55 IS last night. Last purchase for this year. I probably will sell a lens or two to offset the cost, maybe the sigma 30mm if the 17-55 can take it's place. My job is still stable, although my wife did just quit her job to go to school full time.

i think there has been little slow down in gear buying - just look at the prices auctions on Ebay are going for populs EF lenses (85 1.8, 17-55), L's, 30D-50D's, 5Ds 1Dm2s, etc... the demand is still there apparently... i couldn't find a 17-55 under $800 USED on ebay!!

so... yeah - how to explain that in terms of macro economics... maybe the economic pressure hasn't caught up with enough people to bring demand down on 2nd hand photo gear yet... hmm...

I bought a 50D :D a few days ago. I did sell my 40D and the 28-135 from the 50D kit to pay for 50D.

I think photography is one area that won't meltdown. People will always want to memorialize their lives.

Just picked up the 24-105 from a member here, to mate w/5D. I've been wanting one of these for a long time. What a combo. This should do it for the foreseeable future, unless a killer deal comes along for a 500 f4, or 85 1.2. The employer is feeling the squeeze like most everyone else, and we are just finishing a consolidation of work assignments, and layoffs could be coming, but I just managed to get small pay raise by using my seniority to bump someone off of a better paying, and hopefully less physically wearing position. She was not amused, to say the least.

Nope.

No purchases planned until after the 1D4 has been available for about 12 months.

Then, let the good times role!

1D4 plus 70-200 f/2.8 plus 16-35 f/2.8 plus 500 f/4 plus a divorce....
Only kidding!

I'm with you on that one! Whatever it turns out to be I bet it's going to be something special. And I too will wait until all the bugs are out of it.

Trying very hard not to buy anything right now.
My job is hanging by a thread. I torture myself by looking at Craigslist all the time.

I try to look into 85L II but my job is also not very secured, so the purchase is pending....

And, of course, Canon's price increase doesn't help at all. That's another turn off.
