Hi everyone! I'm trying to figure out what I will need for a new location lighting set-up. I'm looking at a couple of AB 800's (Maybe one 800 & one 400) with a Vagabond II and pocket wizards to trigger them. I have a couple of questions. Do the pocket wizards come with any cables? One just attaches to my camera hotshoe right? Then do I just need one more to attach (with what cable?) to one of the lights? or do I need both lights attaches to PW's? To clarify do the AB's trigger one another? My other question is should I buy this stuff now? There is a $25 rebate on pocket wizards at Amazon. Or I live a couple of hours away from Vegas, so I could swing over to the WPPI tradeshow if there will be deep discounts there. I was there last year, but didn't spend much time at the tradeshow, and wasn't in the market for this kind of stuff. Does anyone know if it would be worth it to go over and buy this stuff there?

last year we purchased a 1D mk3, a mac book pro, luggage, fong light spheres, 100 year dvd's, Photoshop actions, and little thingy's to hold pocket wizards. Did we get a discount? Maybe a little, say 10% , maybe 15% and of course no shipping.
My opinion: if you're only a couple of hours away, I'd go even if I didn't purchase anything. My wife downloaded free passes to the trade show, so you can get in free. The free little seminars at the vendor's booths will be worth the trip.

Personally if transporting it isn't a problem I would buy at show. Most shows have special if not then get it when you return. Also, if they run out at show then they can ship it to you. I will not make it this years since I am not going to Az for other reasons as planned this year. But next should be different so if the WPPI is there next year I will be there. I also plan on trying to attend the West coast Photoshop world this year.

If the discount you get at show covers couple hours of your time multiplied by two, plus cost of gasoline plus wear of the car plus lost time while waiting for the show then why not ?

If you're thinking of Vag II, you might want to check the innovatronix booth, they have the explorers - similar to vagabonds.
I'll try to look for a link. :)

I'm not sure what you want to buy. PWs? Cybersyncs from AB? B800/B400. I'd stick with the Alien Bees stuff, save the ton of extra money, and buy more gear with it.

And yes, the Cybersync radio units come with all the cables needed to fire strobes. And yes, the AB strobes have built in optical sensors - if a flash goes off they fire.

Perhaps if you went to the show you'd get a first hand look at the Einsteins from Paul Buff? That would be interesting.
