I got the error 99 message and resolved it by taking our my battery and replacing it. When I looked in the manual that is exactly what it said to do. No problems since.

I've had this error a couple of times using 20D and 17-85. I have latest firmware 1.1.0 and problem resolved by turning camera off and back on. Have no idea what caused it.

I'm getting some of the same symptoms as those above.

My menu only goes to up to the word "Format" (in the yellow section). I don't know why I can't seem to find anything further. How do I find info on firmware , and if I need an update, on my 20D?

Hmmm. On mine, "Format" is in the blue section. The Firmware version is the very last item in the menu, at the bottom of the yellow section.

I can't find it anywhere. Is there something I should've installed when I first got the camera or something? It's not here.

There are a number of menu items that don't display while the camera is set to the Basic modes. Try putting the camera into one of the Creative modes (P, Tv, Av, M, A-DEP) and see if it shows then.

Megapixels and high ISO are a digital photographers heroin. Once you have a little, you just want more and more. It doesn't stop until your bank account is run dry.
