I hope some one can help me with this. For some reason, my xsi is stuck in auto white balance. I didn't want to mess with it too much by myself. It just won't change no matter what mode I'm in. This has not been a problem before. Is there a way to get my old controls back? Thanks so much!

It doesn't seem to matter. I've tried all from A-DEP to P and it just won't adjust. It's so strange.

Anyone? I'm going to be photographing my new grandson (when he arrives any time now) and I don't want to use the flash too much. Time is of the essence! Again thanks!

I don't understand the flash comment. It doesn't matter what the white balance is as to whether or not the flash will fire.

I can't help you, but you can shoot in RAW and adjust the WB in post until you get the AWB thing figured out.

Meaning that when I press the WB button (just below the Av button) it opens the screen to White Balance. I should be able to toggle it from between AWB to Custom and it just won't move. It says Auto at the top left of the screen. Does this help?

Sorry, I'm just not familiar with that camera.

You could try re-setting the camera to the factory settings by pulling out the date/time battery for a minute.

Have you tried anything in the "Creative Zone"? (M, Av, etc....)

I'd agree with shooting with raw and post editing.

Can you go to live view and adjust it there?

Are you sure the dial works properly? Might sound odd, but sometimes the dials get stuck.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

If it says 'AUTO' in the top left corner of the screen then as I understand it the camera is in one of the BASIC modes and AWB will be pre-set. If you want to move the white balance to something other than AWB or if you want to custom the white balance you will need to put the camera into one of the creative modes P, Av, Tv, M or A-DEP.

Hi,
On my XSi (450d) pressing the WB button displays one of the following screens: 1st in creative mode to allow adjustment, 2nd in basic mode just states WB cannot be adjusted.

From the first screen the WB is adjusted by pressing the left and right arrows either side of the Set button - it cannot be changed with the wheel on the top.

Hope this helps

Thank you all! I figured it out with your help and a good nights sleep! The pics you posted, Martin, for some reason, jogged my memory. A bumpy plane ride and waiting for the baby to come must have rendered me brain dead for a few hours! Thanks again!
