I have an XT and a 17-40.
I got the 1DmkI 1.3 crop Instead of spending more money for the EFS 10-22.

Would you have done the same, or gone for the 10mm? + why.

my reasoning was that EFS isn't as versatile. And the lens was more expensive than an it was to get a better body.

I went 10-20...I got a killer deal on that lens...

I contemplated going FF or 1.3, but, really, for about THREE times the price of my 10-20 I could have gotten a beat-up 1D...no thanks.

Also...I'm at 16 mm...you're still at 22.1 (35mm equiv)

+1 for the Sigma 10-20. I love my copy, it's a great lens I don't see any reason to get the Canon 10-22 which costs ~$200 more.

The only other way I'd do it is to get a 5D + 17-40mm but I would want a 5D for more reasons then just to shoot wide.

I have a Canon 10-22, and I love it. It's as wide as I'd ever need to go, and if the Sigma is comparable in IQ, then go with that,

I tested a number of Canon 10-22s and Sigma 10-20s and they were neck-and-neck...sometimes the Canon would barely edge out the Sigma and sometimes the Sigma was slightly better than the Canon.

But, given the Canon's ugly looks, cheaper feel and the couple hundred bucks difference, it was an absolute no-brainer to pick up the Sigma and I'm extremely happy I did.
