First time with night-time skateboarding shots...

These are only a few of the shots I have. I still haven't PP'ed all of the keepers. Like I said in the title, this is my first time shooting skaters at night. All I had was my Rebel XT, 50 1.8, and a cheap Quantaray flash. They seem really noisy to me since i shot at ISO 1600 and that mixed with a Rebel XT=Not so great. I'm beggin for CC on this one. Any tips anyone can give would be much appreciated. I really need a new camera, a nice wide angle, and some strobes.

The last picture is very hard to look at I understand the look you where going for but the horizons just arent so good you do have some good shots in there. ie. 2,3

loosen up the comp. its way too close and tight

most of them seem pretty cool to me. I actually like the last shot quite a bit. The composition makes you look at the picture longer, which is ultimately what you are going for.

Dont feel bad about not getting a ton of responses. I havent gotten many either with my Downhill Skateboarding pics in the past either.

It was kind of hard to loosen up the comp. Using the lens I was using, and with the amount of space I had, that's as loose as I could get it. At both of the spots, there were fences keeping me from getting a better composition.

shooting with the nifty fifty is hard when you have your flash mounted on the camera it sounds like. personally i would say drop the iso down a ton and boost the shutter speed. i shoot night shots at an iso of about 100 and i can sync my strobes up to at least 1/250 when you have that strobe you dont have to shoot at a high iso that is what the strobe is for so drop the iso down.

i like #3 the best, it has good composition and it looks like the skater is at the apex or the trick, 1 and 2 are hard to look at because the back ground is distracting, and 4 for me personally the comp is off on the horizon im not sure if thats what you were going for but for me its hard to look at.

one thing that helped me with my night shooting was going wireless and posting up my strobes on stands so i could move them around and make the lighting look a lot better.

I could have shot these with a point and shoot. These have no composition, and are honestly boring IMHO. If you don't have an off-camera flash system, don't shoot at night because on-camera flash is junk. Shoot during the day and read this...

Not trying to sound like a dick just being honest.

Its cool man. I respect your opinion because I've seen your photos and I think they're fantastic. I just can't wait to get a decent little strobist setup.
