I haven't taken flower pictures in a long time, but shot some today at our local conservatory. These were done hand-held with my 20D using a Canon 24-70 2.4L lens and a 420EX. Only USM was added in PS.

Any comments/help would be most welcome!

I haven't posted pics for critique before, and would really appreciate any feedback at all about the above. I like the color, but am not sure about composition, DOF, etc.

pretty good. Need little more saturation and sharpening .. Try shooting in Raw if you dont already.. I really dont like flower shots that much to be honest.. I almost dislike flower shots as much as I do bird shots.... I think your on the right track for this type of photography..

Too much Gear to list!

Thanks for the feedback johneric8 and Killed!

This is exactly what I was looking for. I'm used to taking pictures of people and used the same process in PS as for those kinds of shots. I'll mess around with increased saturation and sharpening and see what I get.

For all of the above I applied USM at 300%, 0.3 pixels, 0 levels.

The first 3 seem over saturated. Are those flowers really that red?

Hi Hellashot,

Thanks for your comment.

The colors we incredible, and the shots were taken in a conservatory with lots of natural light and using my 420EX for fill.

The first 3 were all converted to jpeg with the color saturation set to standard. The last one had the color saturation set at medium. EOS Viewer Utility was used to convert from RAW to jpeg for all of the images, and the only processing in PS E2 was to add USM. The contrast for all of the images was set to standard in EVU.

It's interesting that the first two replies felt the saturation should have been increased a bit. I wonder if it's just the way the pictures look on different monitors.

Regards,

Bob

colors look good at my end. sure wish i had a better monitor and it was calibrated properly though. right now i am just winging it on how it looks. used the adobe setup thing.

the last one is my favorite. sharp in the center and blurry at the edge.
is this cropped or is that the frame as camera snapped it?
