40D On-Camera Photo Separation

So I've been using the 40D for a while and I'm going to finally ask...

How the heck do you set this thing up so it will create a new folder after every 100 photos??

Right now it only creates one folder 100CANON and will pile hundreds of photos in there. I want it to create 100CANON, 101CANON, 102CANON, etc.

There is no way to do that on 40D.
That feature is reserved for 1D series only..

Are you sure that you can create new folder whenever you want to on these cameras?
Older models only put 100 pictures in each folder, but you cannot create a new one before the old one is full.

I don't want to create a new folder before the others fill up...

Having 850 shots in one folder(100CANON) every time I do a shoot is veeeery annoying.

I just did a quite Google search on this and a lot of info came up. Looks like it's not possible with the 40D. Also looks like everyone on the internet hates that it doesn't do it, either.

Once again, there is no way to do that.
40D puts 9999 pictures in one folder and creates a new one after that.

You'd think they would have at least left it as an option. How hard would that have been? I'm going to disect the latest firmware and see if I can add that feature to the menu system. Probably can take it from a 20D firmware.

The 5D also allow you to change the folder name. I don't believe it's possible with the xxD series to control the name of the folder on the camera. The 30D behaves as you've described the 40D. I get a folder 100CANON and until I shoot my 10,000th image on the card, it doesn't change the directory name.

I don’t see the advantage of having 100 images in each folder, instead of 1000.
When you download them, you can sort them any way you like, but while they’re still on the memory card, what’s the difference?

There isn't a difference on the camera(memory card). When they are sent to my computer it is easier for me to sort through them with 100 photos in each folder, however.

I dont see how its any easier if it has 10 in a folder or 10,000 at the end of the day the folders dont match with anything anyway

import to lightroom, use keywords problem solved then you can sort /search for anything you want

all I did is create a folder called DCIM on my HD, then one for each year and then I have lightroom dump whatever it wants in that yearly folder I could care less what the names are

I like having the single folder for images vs. multiple folders. When browsing images on a memory card I found it annoying that I would find a sequence of images enjoy scrolling through them and then have to exit out and go to a new folder to see the next image in the sequence.
