Looks like a great day Pete. Would have loved to have gone on that trip but am now a Brummy, so ...

Some very nice shots here. I'm liking Hoggy's go with the 300mm. Very nice quality.

Yeah. I have big fat lens envy. But as you can see, I can still pull rabbits out the hat with my trusty old 100-400!!

Cheers condyk! :)

Just to sing the praises of that lens some more, here's a 100pc crop of the 300L + a Canon 1.4X:

It's mind-numbingly good!

Think I would prefer a 100-400 as I found the non-zoomable-ness rather limiting at times .... but that problem is completely cancelled by the image quality! Would love to try the IS version some time ....

Cheers :)

Didn't realise it was the non-IS version. Amazing if you did that hand-held.

Yup it was hand-held :) EXIF below for that image:

1/1000s f/5.6 at 420.0mm iso400

When we were in the hides I did rest the lens on the window-ledge to help steady it .... but basically I kept the ISO reasonably high to keep the shutter speeds up ....

David :)
