Hi

I know this has been asked a lot but if all these lenses were the same price which would you choose. I think i am leaning towards the tokina or the Canon. But cant decide between the extra reach or the 2.8 fixed aperture. Any advice would be appreciated. If i am missing any other lenses, suggestings would be nice.

Thanks

If they were all the same price, the Sigma wouldn't be as popular...

I suspect some of the people buy the Sigma because they can't afford any of the other options. It's a good fun lens. Remove the price, and you take away the Sigma's biggest strength...

The 10-22 is Choice, or Cherse as put in olde english. It was really fun and if I stay with 1.6 crop...I'll be getting it again.

I would still get the Tokina. Reviews still indicate its slightly sharper than the Canon, plus its a bit faster at 2.8, and it has a better build. But... at the same price, I can certainly see why many would go for the Canon. Bigger focal range makes it somewhat more versitile, and it is a Canon lens. Not sure if the Sigma would hang in there with these heavyweights at the same price.

I tested all three before I settled with the Canon. I preferred its colour, contrast and sharpness compared to the other two.
Look for sample pictures of all the lenses and compare them.

I'd personally would go with the toke. Nicer optics and more speed is more important than more zoom range and better AF for me.

does anyone have a sample of what the 1mm difference would be between the 10-22 and the 11-16. I an leaning towards the tokina now but still not sure. Wish is could rent them here in hong kong but customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

Fast aperture doesn't matter a ton in an UWA, and fast AF isn't a big issue either for most typical usage scenarios of a UWA lens.

I'd suggest the Canon/Tokina if you have the funds, or the Sigma if you want to save a bit of cash. Between the Canon and Tokina, I'd go for the canon due to the greater range.

Either the Canon or Tokina.... if you are planning to go FF in the near future, the Tokina can be used on a FF (albeit at the 15-16mm focal lengths).

It's sure nice to have f2.8 at 16mm. FWIW, the Canon is at f4 at 16mm. That's meaningful to me. [Though the Canon is a terrific lens in its own right.]

what about size. From the pics they look similar. Is the extra range of 1mm on the short end and 6 on the long end make a significent difference when composing shots?

From an IQ standpoint:
1. Tokina.
2. Canon/Sigma

From a distortion standpoint:
1. Tokina by 5 miles.
2. Canon
3. Sigma.
