I am curious what custom functions people are using on their 5D2
What do you have enabled in C.Fn I, II, III and so on and why?

I use one for everyday general shooting, one for HDR and one for low-light shooting

C1: -2, 0, 2
C2: ISO1600, M
C3: ISO100, F8, AV

I am just recalling these from memory since I am at work.

I meant the C.Fn Custom functions. What do you have those set on?

Are these two a preference or performance theory?

Also - ALO is C.Fn II-4

I've got this one...
C.Fn IV
5: Eg-D Grid Focusing Screen

Basically my brain works faster thinking in terms of whole or half stops and it's also faster to adjust the camera when you limit it's options. ;) I haven't seen anyone prove out the noise levels at inbetween ISOs on the 5Dii but I've seen them proved to be crap in other cameras, so why bother? Especially when 6400 is so good anyway?

whoops, and fixed... it's #4 but option 3 is disabled...

Here's what I use:

C.Fn I-2: 1 - 1 Stop ISO increments (quicker selection, optimal performance/DR)
C.Fn I-3: 1 - ISO Expansion On

C.Fn II-2: 3 - High ISO NR Disabled (I use ACR most of the time anyway)
C.Fn II-4: 3 - ALO Disabled

C.Fn III-3: 1 - Multi Controller Direct AF point selection (fast AF point selection is a must for me)
C.Fn III-7: 1 - AF Expansion On

C.Fn IV-1: 3 - AE Lock/Metering (shutter button) + AF Start (AF Start button) - (I like the focus on the back button)
C.Fn IV-2: 1 - Enable AF-On/AE Lock button switch (used to 5D/30D and works better with my handgrip)
C.Fn IV-3: 6 - Assign Set button to Record (couldn't think of anything else that I needed to use the set button for)

I haven't set mine yet, but most likely one will be set for studio photography (i.e. a standard 1/200 sec, low iso and around f/8 or f/11. Need to check my settings a bit before that tho. And then probably the other two for shooting weddings.

the NR is off anyway if you're using ACR though right (since you'd be shooting RAW to need ACR)? Just making sure we're both saying this only effects JPEGs.

C.Fn IV-3: 6 - Assign Set button to Record (couldn't think of anything else that I needed to use the set button for)

so, with that set like that, in a shooting mode... you press set does it go into recording a movie directly? I might have to play around with that and just adjust to using the play button for playback to eliminate some button pushing!

I thought maybe it would flag an NR setting in DPP, which I use occasionally (like the way picture styles and WB works), so I just left it off.

Yes sort of, but you have to have Live View set to Movie Mode in the menu. If you leave live view in movie mode all the time with C.Fn IV-3 set to 6, you would want to be careful not to bump the set button accidentally.

I shall be following this thread, I too purchased a 5D Mark II and came across my first problem - might be due to an incorrect setting..

Posted in the 5D mark II sharing thread..

I popped outside at lunch time to test a few portrait pictures, I metered for the correct exposure but yet the photo still came out over exposed - do I have an incorrect setting in my camera's advanced settings?

I had to under expose by 2 stops for the shot not to appear over exposed..

'hey, where did all my CF card space go?'

i don't recall my settings right now but i do go w/ 1/3rd stop ISO increments, AF expansion on, use the back-button, and have programmed 'set' to start movie mode. i should really assign the C1/C2/C3 buttons to something useful...
