I recently bought a Zeiss 50 f2.8 M42 lens off eBay for very little money and despite the description of the lens by the vendor as being excellent, when it arrived it became very clear that the description was false. Whilst the optics were nice and clear, the aperture blades were sticking quite badly.

The lens has now been returned and awaiting a refund, but I did manage one decent shot before it was sent, see below. I shall definitely be getting another to replace it.

The exif does say f1.4, but in fact I did manage to stop it down to about f8.

I should also add that the chipped adapter I bought following advice from members of this forum does work perfectly on my 450D.

PS, Hope this is in the right section.

Nice, I nearly bought one of these when I first got a DSLR, but held back. I've been trying to get hold of one recently but the prices seem to have soared! Damn those 4/3rds users and their adapters! :D

Is it really related to 4/3? I have an E-PL1 and I can't imagine adapting anything to it that isn't a rangefinder lens because of the extra size involved in adapting anything else. Those m42/FD/EOS/Nikon/K/OM adapters are HUGE.

I dunno really, them and the NEX users I guess! Prices just seem to have risen so it's got to be by demand... I'll pick one up eventually!

- Spiratone 135mm f1.8

My copy of this giant hunk of glass came in Minolta MC/MD mount.
I'm using an adapter from Fotodiox, it has glass in it.
I know this isn't the correct solution, but, I wanted to play as soon as I could.
I am uncertain if the adapter or the lens causes the vignetting I see in my pics.

From the brief play time I had, the first two photos suggests swirly bokeh:

This photo shows the great far distance blur of this lens:

The following series show the great close distance blur of this lens:

- f16 :

- f5.6 :

- f1.8 :

this ^^^ series of 3 is a pool railing, BTW...
