What has two thumbs and is going to vomit the next time he hears the term "Brenizer method?"

(No problem with the method itself, but really it's like calling a knuckleball "the Wakefield Pitch!")

I'm going to take a wild stab that this and say you...

What would you prefer it be called bohek-panorama? fake medium format? hey look at my dof? hasselblad/mamiya wannabe?

Oh and by the way BRENIZER METHOD... ahahaha just joking with you.

Contax 50 f1.7. FYI, with the rate the price of these Contax lenses, you are better off paying for the ZE version. $400 for the F1.4 version??? :)

I've heard someone call it a "bokehrama," which is only slightly nails-on-chalkboardesque - but such a term would just be another step toward the permanent loss of the original meaning of the word "bokeh." How about "DoForama?

Better yet: why does it need its own name in the first place? Is it really any different from a "normal" pano stitch? If I cut an apple into slices to eat, should that action bear a different name than cutting the apple into slices for a pie? Both a regular pano and a DoForama™ have the same basic purpose; to generate an image with a FoV wider than would be possible (and with a higher resolution) than a single shot. The latter just has an extra point.

This is surely the most important issue of our time, and I don't at all feel like a dweeb for caring about it! Not a bit!

(Also, now I want apple pie!)

mmmhhmmmmmmm apple pie...

What were we talking about again.

Anyway the contax 50's whether it be the 1.7 or the 1.4 are outstanding and from what I have seen from people in here and my own experience just as good at the ZE versions. I paid $180 for mine in a local camera shop it is the AEJ version with the ninja star aperture. The barrel is slightly beat up but the optics are great. They also had a MMJ version that looked brand new and they wanted $300 for that. While I love threads like this that really show off how good older lenses are I hate them at the same time for informing more people and driving the prices up. 2-3 years ago these lenses were probably 50% cheaper then they are today.

Wonderful photo indeed. I have this lens but never use it. It has amazing bokeh with 15 blades.

Thank you!
The Diaplan (Trioplan copy) has no moevable iris - so no blades. Ant with my Trioplan I mostly did't use the iris. Wiedopen the blades disappear, and only a ring is visible on good most good adjusted lenses.Because of that even the wideopen bokeh of a Rollei Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 with three blades look very good and perfectly round. But as soon as you stop down, you see the three blades form in unsharp regions.

While prices have certainly gone up a lot, it's thankfully not quite that bad. Don't feel stupid for not buying stuff 2 years ago! It's 4-5 years back that things were dramatically different. I'd say that's when things really skyrocketed, then they stayed high for a while, and then in the last year we've seen a price jump of close to 25% on a lot of old lenses.

The two C/Y 50s are outliers on the price increase chart, though. Both have gone up enormously in the last year or so. The 50/1.7 used to be an affordable "hidden gem." Now they can cost more than a modern Canon 50/1.4!

Edit: now that I think of it, almost all of the popular C/Y lenses have done the same thing (135/2.8 and 35-70 spring to mind). Which basically means you were right in the first place!

Some test shots of the Fujinon 55mm/2.2, M42
It is small, metal and a bit heavy, very sharp @5.6 with cold colors. Easy focus and communication with the EMF adapter, generally no need to underexpose for correct exposure by the sensor. A good old japanese school lens.

@F5.6

so i will be purchasing my first MF lens to adapt to my 7D. and had a few questions. i understand that for some cases with a FF camera that the mirror might hit the lens but that on my crop will i have that problem? or am i misunderstanding why that happens.

is there anything else i should know about adapting old MF lenses other than it might be addicting?

I've seen lots of nice samples here.
I got a 50D, what is a nice lens to couple it with?
I don't know of any market that sells these kind of things.
Can anybody from Europe buy me a couple of lenses? :P
Seriously, i'd love to try something.

Brian_R, as far as I know .. mirror issue is typically related to FF, and even that is different on cameras itself. My 5DII works great with all my adapted lens while the 5DI i had, some of the lens would hang the mirror. Crop sensors you shouldnt have a problem with most lens that can be adapted to EOS.

ilguercio, you can try ebay :)

I'd love to have a list of the best lenses i can grab and then i can go and search for something.
That 100 f/2.8 is amazing, damn.
I'd love to have a 50 f/1.4 but i guess they cost pretty much the same as a "modern" 50.
