By odd, I find it falls in between whatever I'm intending to use it for.

When I'm wanting something with a bit of zoom, it falls a bit short.

When I'm trying to take some 'normal' pictures it's like turning around in a hallway carrying a ladder.

But I guess with more use it might feel a bit more natural!

Had another quick go with it wide open, seems sharp enough within its tiny DOF, just need a bit more practice perhaps :)

Got the Nikkor 50mm F1.4 + adaptor. Works like a champ. Thanks for the tip. Gotta save up for the 85mm which is apparently godly! They run about $400 locally.

One caveat though, is that the 50mm I bought didn't come w/ front or rear caps. Dough. Should I be able to pick something up relatively easily at a camera shop that will work?

$400 seems good compared to the ones I've seen on eBay that don't go down below $700. I would most probably sell my 85 EF and get a Nikkor 85 for that price. Japan sounds like paradise for used camera gear lovers :)

Just get a generic cap for your 50. All you need is the filter size. For the rear cap, you need the specific mount in your case a Nikon or if you'll be using a Canon adapter on it full time you can buy a cap for that too. I bought 5 pieces on eBay for $1 each. It took daaaays to get to me in Australia, though.

So I've gone back to Canon from m4/3 and instead of getting zoom lenses I went all prime. All manual focus (save the 85 EF). I'm forever waiting for the m42 adapters from HK to try on the Helios 44m-4 that render colours so beautifully on my m4/3 camera.

Thank you! The bokeh is amazing I am going to try it again over the weekend for more samples and fun.

If the yen would weaken, it would be. Usually things are pricier here than they are in the states. There's a few threads about this phenomenon. Almost all Canon gear is cheaper in the US at launch. The 5d3, for example, is probably about $500 cheaper at B&H than locally. :/

Cheers for the heads up on the caps. Will try a local shop. ;)
