A pair of samples taken with some newly adapter takumars, lighting was really bad. The bokeh is amazing from these takumars. I have another MF lens coming that should deliver some interesting and nice bokeh as well.

My three 50mm 1.4 taks. Results of some impulsive shopping, I definitely need to get rid of one or two of them.

Hey guys does this AF confirm adapter really work? I work with electronics, and i really have no idea how could a pice of metal and a small chip with no moving parts or anything guess your Focusing... Can some one explain please?

It baffled me too, but my Tamron > EOS Chipped adapter works fine, regardless of the magic

My chipped adapters used for my Zeiss lenses actually front focus. Rather, it's me doing the front focusing, but based on when the adapter "tells" me focus is achieved. I've just ordered a new type of chip which, according to the manufacturer, allows micro adjustment of the focus confirmation. In the lens, I should add. Not in the camera body, like the more expensive EOS-cameras. Can't wait to get the adapter and try it out. Furthermore, the new chip tells the camera that an AF lens is attached, all my current adapters tell the camera that a MF lens is attached (which of course is the case). The benefit of "fooling" the camera into thinking it has an AF lens attached is, supposedly, that you can not take a picture until at least one AF-point is in focus, even if you press the shutter button fully. This should help in shooting moving objects; simply press the shutter button fully while pointing towards the subject, turn the focusing ring and the photo is taken as soon as focus is achieved, not sooner.

At least that's what the manufacturer claims, I will hopefully know in a couple of days...

Thats just how the Pentax K DSLR's work. They call it ' catch in focus ' or ' snap in focus '

I'd like that option with my 450D

Canon cameras have that feature, at least my 400D does. If I put an AF lens onto my camera, set the lens to AF and point at something like a evenly colored wall (which the camera can't focus on), I can't take a picture. The camera won't let me until it has "found" something to focus on. It's that feature that the adapter chip manufacturer has managed to exploit, so that an out-of-focus shot can't be taken with an adapted MF lens.

Weird - i can take pictures with an AF lens without focus confirm. Since when has this ' catch in focus ' option been a part of the 400D / 450D ?

I'll take one if the price is right brother.

The camera AF sensors can determine if something is in focus, the adapter just tells the camera that there is a lens there so that it tries to check focus.

So which is the best for me to buy? I'm looking for a Pentax K mount and M42 version. I have a mechanical M42 mount on there now.

I wouldn't buy any since they generally have as many accuracy issues as your eyes. Plus, who wants some knockoff $15 electronics plugged into their nice camera body?

I wasn't really advocating them, just saying how they work. I like the no-chipped adapters.

My three 50mm 1.4 taks.

Does one stand out from the rest as being better than the other two?.
I'm waiting on a 55mm f1.8 Super-Multi-TAKUMAR to be delivered.

Oh I see.. Maybe just stick to my $20 Adorama adapters then

You, apparently, since you own a Sigma lens. Their chips may not be $15, but they fall under the "knockoff" category since Canon doesn't license Sigma to make lenses compatible with Canon's cameras. Sigmas lenses are reverse engineered to work on Canon.

I haven't used them long enough to say one is better than the other. From my understanding, the SMC and Super Multi Coated are exactly the same, just different focusing ring.
