How can you tell between DX and ML?
My cousin has a 50mm 1.9 in M42 mount, I tested it a bit and it was decent!
If it's M42 mount, it's not ML. It says it on the front of the lens
From what I gather, DX is the oldest SLR lenses they have, single coated but still decent glass. Then they came out with DS, which are slightly different, but if I remember correctly (or if my source was right) still single coated. Then they came out with DS-M (multicoated) in M42 mount, I have a 50mm 1.7 DS-M and it's a great lens, but mine is beat up and just generally doesn't work as well as my ML 1.4 so I don't use it much. When they went to the C/Y mount is when they changed their top of the line lenses to ML, the lower end stuff is marked YUS or DSB, both of the latter are single coated I think.
Basically, ML or DS-M glass is the ideal choice, but if you can get the other stuff for cheap it's still good glass
