Had been using a couple of the regular Sears 135mm 2.8s with great results, so I decided to try the macro version.

unfortunately the copy I got was one of the "soft focus" ones, here it is at f/2.8 and at F/8 1:5 macro. (I was also loosing about 2 stops of light at this magnification)

If you like soft focus you'll love this lens, if you don't you'll hate it.

The regular( non macro) made in Japan(tomioka) 135mm 2.8 sears and the made in Korea version(samyang) are both great at 2.8 and phenomenal at F/4, So I'd highly recommend those!

After trying out a few adapted Leica/Contax Zeiss lenses a few years ago the slippery slope was well and truly hit and now my entire sub-135mm kit is Leica & Zeiss.

Here's a selection from the archives:

Taken with a lens I am seriously in love with, the Nikkor 80-200 f4.5, at the Brisbane tennis last December. Camera is my (now ageing) 450D.

A very nice shot. Some of the best images on my computer using older manual lenses were taken using my old 450D. In many ways, I think they are better than images taken with the same lenses on my 7D. I wish now I had kept that old camera.

Tried a very old Nikkor 135mm f2.8 Non-AI lens on my Canon T3i at MFD which is about 1.5 meters. It is NOT a macro lens. But it rendered the scene pretty nicely I thought. It rained like crazy all night so everything is wet. Had to use manual focus confirm as it wouldn't confirm in viewfinder but after some trial and error got a couple in focus. Stopped down manually one stop I think to f5.6, very narrow DOF. Really nice lens, bulky and heavy though!!

Thanks, yes the 450D is a fine camera even now and in fact I was published here in Australia (national camera magazine - eight page spread) using images taken by it. It's getting well on now but is still in regular use till I eventually work out what to replace it with. Vintage lenses are fun, and more Nikkors are definitely on the horizon.

Cheers,

Hal55

My local dealer sold me his personal stash of well cared for non AI Nikkor lenses recently. They are in perfect condition and I look forward to using them both on my T3i and on the Sonys I expect to buy over the next year!!!
