Welcome to the forum Jessica...
Oh, and if you get the chance, post a picture of a duck (don't ask :p).

You're so mean, PG!
JESSICA, YOU DON'T HAVE TO POST A PICTURE OF A DUCK!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! I can't wait to read all this wonderful information that I see in here!
No duck, but how about a chicken?? My parents have ducks and I'll be SURE to get you a picture of one when I'm there Wednesday. :)

Nooooooo! Don't do it! Your camera will explode into a million pieces!!!!
;)

I've got to read the history on this duck business. I've already had to return one broken XSi body a mere two weeks after it was purchased *by no fault of my own, I swear*, but they're not going to be happy if I tell them a required duck photo exploded it into a million pieces. Tisk...Tisk...Tisk...

Basically, you're supposed to post a picture of a duck because.....
....err, well, it's due to the fact that......
........you know, I'm sure there's a reason, but I'm damned if I can recall what it is.

Oh yes! I remember!!! It's because ducks are "('&#("&%&!"(())"** to photograph.

That's odd. I tried typing the reason to someone else a while back and my keyboard did the same thing.

Must be a POTN ghost...

Oddly enough, I think that would qualify for the same reasons why a duck was requested by PerryG!

Hi, I'm Jessica! I couldn't find an intro folder, so please move this if it's not appropriate to post here. I'm Jessica from Southeast Georgia, mom to Kennedy who turned four in December, and wife to Kendall since August 2001. I'm a Certified Passenger Safety Technician and a wannabe photographer.

I have a Canon Rebel XSi, Canon 18-55mm kit lens, Canon 50mm f/1.8 (Nifty Fifty), and Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L. I know this isn't much equipment compared to what all you guys probably have, but it's what I have to work with and I'd like to think that I could start to get some nice shots with this. I also have PhotoShop CS2 to work with, although, I have NO idea what I'm doing when I open it. Totally lost there.

Anyway, I'm going to read to my heart's content and glean any information that I can get from you guys, if you'll have me. :)

Hi n d Welcome!:D

despite our obvious obsession with equipment ( especially 'L' Lenses)
it's not whatyou've got but how you use it!

No seriously it is!;)

And you can learn lots here on how to best use your stuff:cool:

happy reading and posting:D

Hell, I reckon that three SE Georgia chickens are as good as any Duck from anywhere in the world, especially with a few chips!!:)

Just joking, but I never did like duck!

Welcome Jessica, you have made a good start gearwise, nice camera and a couple of lenses that most of us have or have had I would think, 18-55 and the 'Nifty', and one that a lot of us have on our wish list, 24-70 L.

Don't be afraid of Photoshop, it can be a bit daunting at first glance and like most of us you will probably never explore it fully, but photo tweaking is well documented on the net and the guys on this site will either explain what you want to know or point you towards someone who can.

The main thing is to enjoy your photography hobby, take it easy and learn a little at a time.
