Hi, I currently own an Hp slimline computer for about 3 yrs now and it has been great. But It is starting to have some problems. I mentioned this to my sis and she called me today and told me she ordered me another hp desktop. I am very happy! But, she said it is only 2gigs. I have psCs3, lightroom 2 phototools etc. Will this computer be able to handle all that? I do alot of photography, thats what I do. I am very grateful but I don't want her to waste her money if its not feasible for what I need it for. It is not intel processor. It has xp and vista so you can choose which one to use.

Opinions from some of you with pc's.

Thanks
Teeny

Knowing the exact specs would go a long way in helping with any concerns. Do you have the Model number of the computer?

i would recommend against it. your/she is not getting much for your money. for only $10 more you can get twice the computer on a refurb with warranty from newegg

Since we don't know what she's paying it's hard to give advice. Intel quad core is the best bang for buck at the moment.

I think we're talking about this computer here (external link).

MarineManiac makes a good point. For a mere $10 more, you're getting a lot more than $10 extra in spec upgrades. About the only advantage the cheaper one has is you have the XP/Vista Duo option.

You can get away with 2gb of memory with XP (although PS will suffer); it won't be enough for Vista.

2GB will be more than enough for Vista.
Infact my better half is sitting in the next room playing on a home built system with only 2GB of rum, running Vista home premium. It works perfectly, for playing WoW, watching movies etc, I can't tell the difference between it any my system with 4GB or ram.

2GB will be pushing it for lots of photoshop work, however if your editing a small number of files at a time, and don't mind waiting a bit, it will be fine.

That's a fact as Vista Home Premium uses +/- 1 gig of RAM by itself.

I actually get away with running PS and LR using only 512mb RAM. However I wouldn't advise doing this unless you have ALOT of patience!I will upgrade as soon as I can afford to, probably to 4GB plus.

No it doesn't.
It uses only slighlty more RAM than XP.
It appears to use more RAM than that because it uses Pre-fetch to preload into the system memory commonly loaded applications.
This memory is released to other applications if needed, but if not needed it does speed up load times of your favourite programs.

I would suggest anyone who has problems with Vista go back into thier holes and continue to fiddle with Windows 95 on thier Pentium 1, because the rest of the world has move on.
