great photo man. brings back memories when i went back 4 years ago. and it is true that we should value how much we do have over what we dont have. im really appreciative that my dad chose to join the US navy for our family to live the better life. ***Interesting fact-the lady cooking in the corner in the first pic is commonly referred to as a "dirty kitchen" and used by filipinos here in the states. my mom/auntie/uncles etc, actually have "dirty kitchens" to cook fish(toyote-its a relle stinky fish) to avoid the house smelling bad. again-great photo :)

You've documented this aspect of life there very well. Excellent images, although a bit oversharpened looking for the web for my liking.

Yeah, that was on purpose. I also added tint and turned down the contrast. I was trying to be artistic and give off a feeling of sadness or despair. I could probably fool around with it and come up with something different if I tried.

Even though the images in this thread are from Manila, my wife is a country girl from Pangasinan province and believe me, I know ALL about dirty kitchens. Very thoughtful that your elders use one here in the States, I'd love to get my wife to do that when she's cooking bangus. The most she will do is open the windows and light some scented candles which usually just makes it worse.

Sometimes I think we Americans lose focus on how lucky we really are in the scope of things...

You Americans don't have a monopoly on wealth and prosperity you know-things aint so bad over the other side of the Atlantic ;)

These are good shots , would look good in gritty B&W also, although second is breaking up a touch.

I think you kinda missed the point I was trying to make...maybe you are trying to say that people in the UK complain too much and take their good life for granted too?

Thanks for your comments though... :D

Not at all, the point I was making is that you guys sometimes forget that there are one or two other countries that have a standard of living similar to the USA, perhaps if you had said 'we in the developed world........' it would have had more relevance.

And I agree, we in the developed world do sometimes forget how lucky we are.

I was being ironic, but forgot you guys don't do irony :) ;)

LOL @ "pink structures" = place for males to relieve themselves. Well it's better than spray painting the words "bawal umihi dito" on a wall like everywhere else in the PI. Hahaha with our homeless and drunks in the city around here sometimes I think they should build those in the States...but why pink I wonder? In honor of Gloria?

:D

Our irony has more layers... like an onion. Just when you think you've seen the whole story you tug at a piece of the onion and discover a new layer. On seeing this new layer, one doesn't know whether to laugh or cry. ;)
