Difference

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this level of photography. Just purchased the 50D with 28-135mm lens. So I need to purchase filters for my new baby. What is the difference between a UV and UV/IR cut? Which one should I get? Currently looking at B+W filters.

Your camera is almost completely insensitive to both UV and IR. So neither filter will have any positive effect on your images.

B + W is the Rolls Royce of filters and frankly a good investment despite the price. A UV filter is a good way to protect an expensive lens from damage; if something hits the front of the lens, you only lose about $100 for the filter instead of losing the lens.

I have one on all my lenses. Look at the Hoya pro filter as well for price comparison.
